Krasnodar is the administrative centre of Krasnodar region, the unofficial capital of Kuban.
The city stands on the right bank of the Kuban river and borders upon the Republic of Adygea.

The original name of the city was Ekaterinodar in recognition of Catherine the Great’s grant of this
land to the Black Sea Cossacks. In 1920 the city was renamed Krasnodar – its party cell simply
sent a telegram with this information to Moscow.
Today Krasnodar is the centre of agricultural region, which produces most grain in Russia.

Airport.
Krasnodar International Airport (Pashkovsky) is the largest airport of the Russian South, located 20 km away from the centre of Krasnodar city in Pashkovskaya village.
